Описание: ntroduction: Sustainability is becoming more integrated into different fields in many countries. Architecture and urban development are no exception. International agreements, charters, and national strategies have already been adopted around the world. Nonetheless, the relevant procedures and applications are just as important. In Armenia, despite the existence of several National Standard upgrades and the development of the Buildings’ Energy Passport, there is still no building sustainability assessment system. Methods: This article analyzes development documentation, particularly the application form and acquisition of design permits, in terms of its sustainability, based on legal research, the Developers Guide, and the author’s own professional experience. Results and discussion: This analysis shows that generally, applications and permits include sustainable aspects, but need several improvements in order to make development more sustainable. In turn, the main issues affecting the process are timing, communication, and project presentation capacity.

Описание: Nowadays sustainability is a key issue, worthy for attention to study in the urban developments of Gyumri. Article studies two adaptation cases of former theater buildings included in the heritage list: the People’s house of Alexandropole and the Sevyan Club Building. Sustainability of the above mentioned adaptation projects is analyzed according to a modern sustainability theory, which states that sustainable building must have natural, cultural and technological images. Analyzes show that cultural image is clearly expressed as it is part of preservation regulations for the heritage buildings. Natural and technological images are not manifested in the projects properly. Study shows that heritage buildings’ adaptation in Gyumri has strong cultural image, while the other two images are not considered as project targets usually. To achieve more sustainability in architecture and environment some actions towards natural and technological images’ reinforcement must be taken on A regulatory level as for the cultural.

Описание: With the advancement of BIM technologies in recent years, many countries developed legislations and standards in the field of construction regulating the usage of BIM technologies. Alongside all the advantages that BIM technologies provide to all stakeholders, many profes- sionals do not use them for their design processes. And while many countries try to make BIM as part of their legislations, countries like Armenia, do not take that risk, because of the differences between professionals in the field of construction, particularly between architects and engineers.
This article presents the current situation of BIM software usage in Armenia, the prob- lems and challenges of its implementation in the whole construction process, from design to en- vironmental and sustainability analysis. To understand and analyze the situation and current is- sues connected with BIM usage in Armenia, dozens of professionals, architects and engineers were interviewed.

Описание: The world is becoming more sustainable with every new building, which is aimed to create healthier, cleaner and safe environment while consuming fewer natural recourses. The LEED certified Ave- disian school is the pioneer among sustainable buildings in Armenia, followed by BREEAM certified UWCD Academic building. This article studies these two projects to understand the current situation and necessary steps to have more sustainable buildings in the country. Case study approach is used to analyze the practice and development opportunities of sustainable architecture in Armenia.
Both projects were analyzed based on the interviews with the architectural teams and materials provided by them. Buildings where explained by their natural, technical and cultural images.
These case studies indicate that there is need to create or develop national green strategies, regulations to attract developers to build more sustainable buildings.

Описание: Urban fabric of cities’ changes faster and becomes more complicated because of issues connected with urban density, traffic, resources, waste, heritage conservation, use and new developments. Facadism came as a solution in the hands of architects and authorities to protect culture and history and give a chance for new developments. While sustainability became tool for different specialists and authorities to reduce the negative impact on natural environment and create healthier neighborhood for people. This article studies the sustainable aspects of the facadism. With the use of case study approach, several projects with facadism approach were discussed. The general connections of facadism and sustainability were outlined.The qualitative analyzes of the cases shows that in case of balanced approach from all stakeholders facadism and sustainability principles can be combined and satisfy all stakeholders.
